Trishuli jeep plunge: Ghimire’s decision to overtake truck led to accident, says probe report

Former Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire, who remains missing in the Trishuli, tried to overtake a truck, and this failed to control his jeep as it plunged into the river, a report prepared by authorities investigating the incident has said, nearly three months after the accident.

madhav-ghimireFormer minister Ghimire, two of his brothers and their mother had gone missing in the river on September 25 as the family was returning home from a pilgrimage to Muktinath.

Their vehicle fell into the rain-swollen Trishuli. While the bodies of Ghimire’s mother and one of his brothers has been recovered, that of Ghimire and another of his brothers remain missing in the river.

There was no reason to believe that there was criminal intent in the accident, the authors of the report prepared by a team led by former IGP Kuber Singh Rana say. They say that Ghimire was behind the wheel when the incident happened.

The team submitted its report to Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi.
