Don’t distribute bonus to NOC employees, no matter what: Supplies Minister Pun

Kathmandu, February 29

Minister for Supplies Ganesh Man Pun has directed Nepal Oil Corporation not to distribute bonus to its employees.

Minister Pun issued this directive to Acting Executive Director of NOC, Sushil Bhattarai, over the phone.

Minister Pun called up (NOC’s Acting Executive Director) this morning and directed him not to distribute bonus to NOC employees, Marich Man Shrestha, Pun’s private secretary, told Onlinekhabar. This is the second time Minister Pun has issued a directive against distribution of bonus to NOC staff, he said.

Minister Pun directed NOC not to distribute bonus to its staff, no matter what, after he received information that the corporation was making preparations to distribute bonus amounting to around 900 million rupees.

The NOC is yet to repay the government a loan of Rs 12 billion. Last year, the state-run oil monopoly had an auditing report prepared, which showed that the corporation was earning a working profit. Based on this report, the NOC is preparing to distribute bonus to its staff. On Thursday, Finance Minister had directed the NOC not to distribute bonus.

In the past also, Finance Ministry used to direct the NOC not to distribute bonus to staff, pointing at its financial health. Nonetheless, the oil monopoly had distributed bonus claiming to have earned working profit.

A movement in the Madhesh and a covert Indian blockade caused a severe shortage of petroleum products in Kathmandu and other parts of the country. The blockade seems to have eased a bit and the movement seems to have cooled off for a while, but the oil crisis persists.
