The Department of Passport says it will stop the distribution of machine-readable passports (MRPs) and will issue newly introduced e-passports only from December 14.
The government had begun distributing high-technology e-passports partially on November 17, but the distribution of MRPs still continues.
Meanwhile, the department says it will begin distributing new e-passports from its new office located in Tripureshwar by closing the distribution from the Narayanhiti office from that day.
Likewise, the applicants will begin receiving e-passports from district administration offices of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur also from next week. “Other districts will also do the same from the other week,” the department’s spokesperson Sharad Raj Aran says.
Applying for an e-passport requires the applicant to have a national id card. The government has not completed distributing national id cards, but it can be obtained from concerned district administration offices.
