An eight-year-old girl lost her life after being struck by a falling rock while on her way to school in Gulmi.
According to DSP Chiranjivi Dahal, the victim has been identified as Bishnu Kumal, a resident of Chhaldittar in Ishma Rural Municipality-2.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning when a rock fell from above the road, critically injuring her. She was rushed to Gulmi Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead by doctors.
The rock reportedly fell due to ongoing road expansion work on the Chhaldi-Thadunga route, which has been under construction by Shrestha Construction Pvt. Ltd. in Tamghas for the past three years.
Locals have blamed negligence by the construction company for the tragic incident. Meanwhile, the police have taken the JCB operator into custody for further investigation.
